After losing your sight, there are many things that you have to learn to do differently. One of the main things is cooking. Whether it be a small lunch for yourself or a large dinner for the family, cooking is an important part of our daily lives. Unfortunately, sight loss can make this difficult. But, today, I've got a great product that can help you out and is very blind friendly. It is called the Nuwave (pronounced New Wave) Oven.
A couple of disclaimers i make in the video:
- This is not a sponsored video. The Nuwave Company is not paying me nor did they send me this product ofr review. Thes is my own Nuwave Oven that I bought myself. (It's actually my third!)
- This is an infomercial product. You buy it late at night when you are too tired to make good decisions. It comes across as a “too good to be true” kind of product. But, it is a great product for sure!
I LOVE my Nuwave Oven! I use it nearly everyday for a variety of reasons. Not least of which is the fact that it is very blind friendly. It is a great way to cook a wide variety of items for you and your family.
What is this thing?
Let's start by giving a brief description. The Nuwave Oven is is a counter top oven. It can cook things like chicken, beef or pork. It can also bake brownies, make eggs and bacon and even make beef jerky. It advertises that it can make things from frozen as well. In my experience, this is hit or miss. For example, I like to cook my chicken breasts fresh. But, I make a pork tenderloin that I wouldn't cook any other way but from frozen.
To put it simply, if you can put it in the oven or on the grill, you can put it in the Nuwave Oven. More information can be found on the Nuwave Oven website.
What makes it blind friendly?
One of the best features of the Nuwave is that fact that it is simple to use. Very few buttons to worry about and simple directions to follow. Best of all, these few buttons are raised and give great, response feedback when pressed. They actually have kind of an “old school” feel to them. You can easily find the button you need. And, with the few number of buttons, the layout is easy to memorize.
Another great thing is its consistency in cooking. For example, I know that if I put chicken breasts in the Nuwave for 9 minutes a side, they will be done at the end of that time. (NOTE: Times vary based on the size of what you are cooking.) No worrying if the meat is done or not. Plus, I don't have to worry about seeing how it is cooking, like on a grill.
Should you get one?
YES! Absolutely! I have not been disappointed at all with my purchase. Bear in mind that there is a learning curse to using it and you might have to play around with times for cooking. But, in the end, it is a great product for all, especially those who are visually impaired!
